Collaborative Quilt for Yvonne Porcella

As many of you know, Leslie Tucker Jenison, Iris Karp and I put out a call for blocks to make a quilt for Yvonne Porcella, after hearing that she has Ovarian Cancer. We wanted to wrap our love around her.
Leslie and I each sewed the squares together that we received in the mail - she in Texas and me in California. I had a sew-a-thon in my studio on March 1st to help with the satin stitching - Mary Tabar, Kathy Hanoian and Felisa Lyons. Leslie came to California on March 15th, and we began sewing the entire quilt together. I am sewing down the Mistyfused binding above.
Below, Leslie is sewing the quilt on my Bernina, and I was holding it on the other end.
Sewing the middle portion together with the satin stitch.
All sewn up! Even standing on a ladder, we could not get the entire quilt in the picture! The quilt also includes Yvonne's name, the words Peace, Joy and Love and the initials SAQA.
Thanks to the outpouring of love and generosity from SAQA members and others, this bed quilt was made for Yvonne. Leslie Tucker Jenison and I received over 100 squares from all over the world. 84"wide x 104" long. There are more pictures on Leslie's blog.

  5. It is beautiful! I am SO very sorry that I didn't have the extra time to create a block for her. I did send a card, but that's not nearly as thoughtful as what you did. Bravo to you for giving such a beautiful gift of love.

I was and still am overwhelmed with what I call
the "gift of love" quilt. It is so beautiful and
BIG but the biggest gift was Jamie,Leslie, and Iris
taking time during their trip to the Saqa conference
to drive to Modesto to present it to me. We
had a love filled day together. I am truely
blessed to have so many friends all over the
world of quilting who generously sent cards
and good wishes. So I am on the path of
remission as my treatments are doing a
good job. Join me and Deb Roberts on a cruise
    to the Baltics May 2011!!!

  22. Somehow I missed your call for blocks. I don't know Yvonne personally , but have always admired her work. Your quilt really hits the nail on the head.....happy, vibrant colors, jut what I think of when I think of her quilts. And I love the picture of her in that fabulous lime green hat, obviously enjoying that very happy quilt. Kudos to you both for taking on the task and doing such a great job.

  25. The Gift of Love quilt is a perfect name for it Yvonne! Each and every block — front and back—exudes the love, gratitude and artistic respect fiber artists from all over have for you, and the collective wishes for your full and fast recovery. Jamie and Leslie what a spectacular and generous job you both did to bring this so beautifully together (and in this short window of time) including also documenting each and every block, assembling all the emails and notes in a memory book as well as laboriously, skillfully and charmingly putting this Gift of Love quilt together. Just spectacular! Iris
