A Zippy Start Back in the Studio

I am attempting to make an art quilt with a dress on it, but unique and fun!  I made some sketches while I was flying back from Ashland, Oregon on how I envisioned the dress to look like.  Best laid plans.  This piece is for a gallery show in NY, with my small group 8 that Create.  The title is "Off the Hanger" - and my group of pieces will be titled "Dress Up"

I began this concept by cutting out the measuring tape fabric (pre-Mistyfused), and then fused them to zipper trim.

This is my dress made out of black wool blended felt

Lining up the zipper skirt on the felt foundation.  The next step will be to sew them onto the felt by machine

The bodice made out of a variety of black, white and gray fabrics, also on a wool foundation.  Stay tuned for the making of the dress and the quilt.

  1. Omg! How fun! I can't wait to see more. It seems like it would be hard to leave the studio in the evenings with a project like that and I'm sure you can't wait to get back in the mornings! I'm envious of your creativity and your group!
