Points of Interest in the Studio

The Popmaster by Stylon Corporation was invented by my Grandfather, Edson Eastman Styll in 1951.  His business was on the ground floor, and he and my grandmother lived on the second floor in Huntington Park, CA.  His business provided popcorn to theater's in Long Beach and Los Angeles in the 50's to the mid 70's.  This machine was sold all over the country.   It has been in my garage for years, and now will have a prominent place in my art studio.  It is totally cool.  You can click on any photo to see it larger.

The is the cover of the brochure.  The machine kept the popcorn warm.  10 cents a bag, and I still have some of the bags.

Back side of the brochure

Inside details of the machine

Wood tall skinny drawers for mixed media things.  This is from Ikea way back when, and stamped with large foam stamps in acrylic paint.

Mary Engelbreit fabric decoupaged cabinet that holds paper for collaging and cardboard books

Paint cabinet - painted with red acrylic paint, hand lettered and circles painted on it.  It was great fun to create!

My desk, a life-size standup of Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of Girl Scouts and a vintage wire shelf with my book and DVD's prominently displayed
Current reading materials at my fingertips, if I need a break and want to lay down on my red and white polka dot couch.  Oh my gosh...it is so great to be able to say that!!!

How things are looking now.  Still have to paint the side table red.

The right of the room, has gotten a little better.  Unloaded more boxes.

This corner still needs work.  Fabric has yet to be unearthed from boxes onto rolling shelf units (coming in another week of so), and this corner of the room will be my Bernina and Simplicity Felting machine area, with another table to work with, that is on wheels (thank you, Cathy Norton).

  5. Just picked up a Popmaster at a local auction. It needs a lot of TLC, but I hope it's all there....I do vending restorations. I have been searching for the patent under your grandfather's name so I can see if they have mechanical drawings, but having no luck so far.
