A Little Warm-Up Project in the New Year

"Dress Up" quilt, made with zipper trim on the skirt - the entire piece is Mistyfused to wool blended felt and free motion machine quilted.  It's one of my most favorite piece and it hangs on the wall in my studio.  See clothes pins.
I liked it so much, that I had some Spoonflower Fabric made with this design.  So, after a couple of weeks out of the studio to be with family for the holidays, I decided that I needed a little warm up project in the new year
I cut it into a 12" square. Then I Mistyfused the fabric to a piece of black wool blended felt (TOY002 National Nonwovens), and then backed it with red wool blended felt, same manufacturer.  The piece was ten completely free motion quilted on my Bernina.  It needed some brightening up, because sometimes when printing fabrics that are red and black, it dulls them up a bit.  So, out with the red paint and my polka dot stencil.

I also painted the red on the measuring tape skirt as well, and some of the black to bring out the bold color

and this is how it turned out.  Pleased as punch!  Now I am ready to move onto some projects that have actual deadlines.  Last fall was so hectic for me, great fun, but alot on my plate.  This was great fun to make something that didn't have a deadline.  I hope to make more of this kind of art in 2014.  Yay!

  2. Wow, it does sparkle in the end. Love your quilting texture. Probably the difference in person is more dramatic.
