The Art of Whimsical Lettering by Joanne Sharpe

I was honored to be asked to review Joanne Sharpe's new book "The Art of Whimsical Lettering."  Joanne is one of the contributing artists of The Sketchbook Challenge, that I have been a part of for the past three years.  I love lettering, and use it frequently in my own work.  You can see by my drop cloth here on the table, words are stenciled on it.

She has done alot of artwork with Copic markers, so I wanted to see what all the fuss was about.  I bought four and clearly that was not enough.  These markers have 2 ends - a broad and a brush and they go on like butter.  Oh my.  I need more.  Could be a new addiction for me.  Adding them to my Amazon wish list right now!

So, from her book showing shadow lettering, I gave it a whirl.  Yes, I need more colors.  Yellow would have been nice, and maybe lime green!  This has a nice look to it.  Her instructions were very easy to follow.

I love the line "Discover the joy of text!?  She has a joyful palette of colors.  This book is full of inspiration, and great ways that you can expand your horizons for adding text to your own work.  Dream it and make it happen.  She has great quotes throughout the book.  Everything from papers to all kinds of journals.  Imagine the possibilities.  And of course, the Copic markers.  There is a great Resource section.  Letters in the round, story strips and even bling!
Fun Contents page - hours of enjoyment await you!  She offers many sample aphabets!

Great ideas that you can incorporate your own artistic style into.  That is what is terrific about this book.  She is paving the way for you to explore, and create your own art!  If you ever wanted to own a book about lettering for your artwork - this is it.  Look no further.

  3. Copic markers have been on my wish list for many years. I never bought them because my kids always end up getting into my markers and using them up - now that the babies are 16 . . .hmmm maybe.
