Loss and Rememberance

Remembering my mom, who passed away on Wednesday, March 21st, in the the care of Hospice and her loving family.  She is in heaven with my dad, who passed away less than four months ago. True love.  This is a picture from their wedding.  You can read her obituary in the OC Register
My parents in 2009, celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary!  They were both big supporters and fans of my artistic life. They came to my fine art shows, quilt exhibits, and visited me in my studio, which I will be forever grateful for.
She loved the beach!  What a beauty!
a photo montage from their album.  She was active in her church, played bridge and belonged to many women's groups.  My mom, the social butterfly, loved to go to parties, and never wanted to miss anything.
One of her friends said that she had a smile that could light up a room!  She taught me how to make pies, and cakes, and she made the best french toast!  We always had music playing in our house - from musicals, movies and popular music.  She had many favorites, and could play the piano.  I'm going to miss you mom, and your amazing positive attitude.
Mom, Jen, and me (Grandma Alice behind us on the quilt) - Four Generations.  At the Orange County Fair in 2010, when I was the featured artist in the fiber section, showing a retrospect of my work!

My mom in assisted living, with all of her memories around her.  We were still singing songs in her last days, even if I could not remember all of the words.  She told me to always keep my sense of humor.
A hot pink rose will always remind me of my mom. Vibrant, full of life and passionate.  It gives me great comfort that she is free from Parkinson's disease, dementia and pain, and with my dad in heaven.  Peace and blessings!  Love you Mom!

  2. What a beautiful tribute to your Mom! My Dad will be gone 3yrs next month - my Mom is 92 and suffers with dementia - she would love the pink rose as she is definitely a Pink gal herself - I'm a new follower but sending you a heartfelt hug - it's never easy to lose a parent.

  3. Oh my, what a year you have had! It's always sad to lose someone you love; however, you are so very fortunate to have had the connection that is so obvious in your post. And it truly is a blessing for those who have suffered such things as Parkinson's and dementia, to move on and be free.

    Thoughts and prayers are with you xo

  4. Sorry to hear about your mom and your dad. They had true love to go one after the other. It seems when people are married that long and one dies, the other is sure to follow shortly after. Glad they are both back together and pain free. {{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}

  18. What a year you have had. I hope you can take a little time to be kind to yourself, and give yourself the sort of care that your parents would have given you, when they were each at their best. Your mom and dad must have been so proud of you.
