Alliance for American Quilts - Voting begins

The voting begins this week and continues till June 29th for all of the contest quilts for the Alliance for American Quilts. They are now posted on the nonprofit's website here: http://www.allianceforamericanquilts.org/projects/galleries/Home/gallery/.

There are 119 quilts in the gallery, and if you click on a thumbnail photo, you can see a larger photograph. The theme was "Home is Where the Quilt Is," and the quilts are all house-shaped, many with wildly creative and deftly executed designs.

All members get a chance to vote for their favorite quilt. Only the grand prize, a HandiQuilter machine, will be awarded by a panel of judges, Paula Nadelstern, Marianne Fons and Mark Lipinski. Members, who pick all the other winners, must cast their vote by June 29, and should have received a link to the ballot by now. Those who are not members yet can join for as little as $25 now and vote in the contest. 

The contest quilts debuted last night at the Original Sewing & Quilt Show in Raleigh, North Carolina, and will be traveling until November, visiting such cities as Grand Rapids, Michigan and Kansas City, Missouri. Go to the website, www.quiltalliance.org, to see if the quilts will be exhibited near you.

The quilts will be auctioned off on eBay to raise money for the Alliance's mission, to document, preserve and share the stories of quilts and their makers. All contest quilts will be permanently archived at www.quiltindex.org.

My entry is titled 'home is where your story begins.'

This is one of the details of my entry 'home is where your story begins.'  There are hidden words in the house, saucer, steam, and on the typewriter.  I have to say that I was a writer first, before I became a quilt artist.

I learned how to type on this style of typewriter.  We have come so far, but I still have a strong connection to the manual typewriter.
