Courage for the Journey

I made this group of inspirational prayer flags for myself, because I am in need of 'courage for the journey.'  I am going to have foot surgery soon (Ankle Replacement), and my emotions are going from excitement to apprehension to trying to remain calm.  I am not new to surgery, so I know what to expect.  I've had many foot surgeries, and a hip replacement.

Strength for every day leading up to my surgery.  Strength to stay in bed and rest, which I am not good at.  I know that going in.  Strength to keep my arms and legs moving, even if I am still in bed.  Strength to use crutches/knee scooter for six weeks, and then learn to walk, after my bones have healed.  Strength to get back on the horse, even when it is frustrating and hard.

I am meditating daily, that I will be calm on the days leading up to my surgery, as well as,  on the day of my surgery.  My friend, Melly gave me this excellent suggestion, and it is working!

Prayer for healing, that the bones heal by 6 weeks, so I can begin to put weight on my foot.  And that I will maintain a positive attitude throughout the duration

Remember to b r e a t h e and pray and be thankful.  I am loading the books on my Kindle, sketchbooks will be within a hands reach, and maybe some handwork.

and when it gets really hard, remember what I have to look forward to in the coming months.  These things will be my incentive to relax for the necessary amount of time, exercise, and do what the doctor tells me.  My blog will not skip a beat while I am laid up - there are many scheduled posts on the horizon for your reading and viewing enjoyment!
these and many inspirational flags are posted every week on The Prayer Flag Project blog

  1. What a wonderful way to express your feelings.
My prayers and thoughts are with you and I hope everything goes well.
I cannot sit still for long, a few days of being sick and I have to get up and do something;) I do a lot of hand sewing when I have to rest.

  4. Sending prayers for a speedy, uneventful recovery! I don't know about you but the older I get it seems like the days, weeks, months fly by. Hopefully that will be the case. Maybe you can have some fabric nearby so you can be cutting some components for your fabulous quilts-to-be! Your mind will probably be racing with all kinds of ideas since you won't be able to run to the studio!

  7. VERY best wishes to you! I lurk a lot and don't comment as much as I should but I read you every day, and enjoy your Quilting Arts DVD and articles very much. If I didn't live 3,000 miles away I'd bring a casserole for your family's freezer. :) I hope somebody in your local community is able to do something like this for you. Here's to the soon-to-be new and improved you. --Keet in Pennsylvania

  11. It looks like you have a wonderful start to a great recovery! I am sending prayers that the surgeon will be skilled and make great decisions in his work. I am sending prayers that your body will heal properly and that time will seem to go quickly so that you can spend the time down that you need to heal. And if by chance you start to go a little stir crazy you know you can post online or email and you will have lots of supportive people to help you through! Best wishes!
