Jamie Fingal: A Tackle Box Transformed
By Everyday Art Revival
In May 2024, mixed media and textile artist Jamie Fingal breathed new life into a forgotten object through a creative and colorful upcycling project. In her blog post titled “Tackle Box Redo”, Fingal shared the process behind converting a plain metal tackle box into a functional and artistic seed storage container.
From Utility to Art
The project began with a thorough cleaning and priming of the box, laying the foundation for a vibrant reimagining. Fingal approached the piece as a blank canvas, applying layers of acrylic paint in bold strokes and free-form patterns that reflect her signature visual style.
What was once a utilitarian object transformed into a joyful, hand-painted piece full of energy and personal flair. Every side of the box bursts with color, proving that even the most mundane items can hold artistic potential.
A Fusion of Function and Creativity
Fingal’s choice to turn the box into a seed storage container connects the project to themes of growth and renewal — fitting metaphors for both gardening and art-making. Inside the decorated shell is practical organization, outside is joyful expression.
The project exemplifies how beauty and utility don’t have to be separate. In Fingal’s world, art lives in everyday objects — whether on a quilt, in a sketchbook, or inside a vintage tackle box.
Creative Repurposing
With this project, Fingal once again demonstrates the spirit of upcycling: taking the old, the worn, or the overlooked and turning it into something uniquely delightful. Her “Tackle Box Redo” reminds us that creativity isn’t limited by material — it’s about how we see what’s in front of us.
