I really enjoy making art quilts in this size and I find that it's a great way to experiment with new fabrics. These collages use a variety of fabrics that are sewn onto black wool felt. Block printing, painting, stenciling, free motion machine quilting, embroidery; ribbon, netting, screen, buttons, snaps, ring trim, beads, wool felt beads cut in half, washers, hooks without eyes, ring trim, Grungeboard and zipper. All work is done before being backed with red wool felt.

Cool! Love the mixed media approach and that key plate is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThese are great! How do you attach the red felt back?
ReplyDeleteThe red felt is sewn on my machine as close to the zipper as I can get with a zipper foot.
ReplyDeleteI love the way your incorporate all those interesting things and get such a cohesive look. Great fun!
ReplyDeleteGreat use of all of that "stuff"! The title, Elements of Style, of course harkens to the book by Strunk and White that was first published about 50 or so years ago. If you can, take a look at the ILLUSTRATED version that came out 2 years ago. Your use of the color RED works so well with the cover of the book. I'd love to do a series of small quilts based on the examples in that book...
