Using a rotary cutter, ruler and cutting board, cut the edges 1/4" all of the way around, so that the backing black wool blended felt shows.

Hand sewn blanket stitch is added all the way around the piece, using #8 Perle Cotton thread

You are moving the needle and thread under the first layer of wool blended felt - not the backing.

Bring the needle up and through the loop to create the blanket stitch.  For easy hanging, you can sew pop tops onto the upper back near the corners, in place of a sleeve.  It is easier to hammer a couple of nails into the wall, than prepare a dowel to go through the sleeve.
